Finding myself lost and with some spare time when on a job in Clitheroe, I looked for a café where I could enjoy local produce whilst still being able to beaver away on my laptop.
Recommended on Restaurant Guru in 2022, the Pavilion Coffee House situated next to Shackleton's Home and Garden Centre in Chatburn was one of the first recommendations that came up when I searched for cafés near Clitheroe.
Perusing the website and reviews, I decided to give it a go as it looked like a homely environment that served good food, and most importantly, somewhere with free Wi-Fi while I worked.
Pulling into the car park I was pleasantly surprised to see there was a lot of space available, even on a weekend.
Walking in, the place was packed with people, and I scanned the room in hopes there was a table available.
I had read online it does not take bookings, which was good that I did not need one, but made me worry there would be not enough room for walk-ins.
Before I had chance to worry too much, I was greeted by a member of staff with a friendly face who guided us to a table.
She showed us the special board and handed us a menu, full of different options and tasty-sounding food.
On a board there was the Wi-Fi name and password, a feature most remote workers find joy in as a sign of encouragement in getting my laptop out.
As I looked at the menu, I realised I was quite hungry. It was a fairly warm day, and due to a busy morning at work, I ordered an iced coffee to cool me down and perk me up for the rest of the afternoon.
When looking at the rest of the food, I listed a few things I would fancy eating: Chicken Caesar Salad, Croque Monsieur, or Mac and Cheese.
The only fault I have to give the whole place is that it is a little on the pricey side for what they offer. With that in mind, I went for the small Fish and Chips, listed at £9.
However, when it came, I was delighted to see it was a fair portion that was really fresh and delicious.
Again, the staff brought it over with a smile and made sure we were happy with our order.
Staying there for a couple of hours, we ordered a couple more coffees but did not feel pressured to leave.
Customers came and went around us, and we realised it must be the perfect place to spend a Sunday.
Whether you're into plants and need a break during your shopping, a family looking for a treat, or a worker looking for a place to watch the clock go by, I would highly recommend the Pavilion Coffee House in Clitheroe Road.
