A 13-year-old girl was indecently assaulted while she was in the custody suite at Greenbank police station.
Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard Daniel Binkowski grabbed the girl's behind as he walked past where she was standing at the station in Whitebirk Drive, Blackburn, on October 9.
Binkowski, 25, of The Hamptons, Gough Lane, Bamber Bridge, pleaded guilty to sexual assault.
He was made subject to a community order for nine months on the condition he resides at Hampton House, a mental health unit, for the next three months.
District Judge Alexandra Preston said it had been a very unfortunate incident which took place at a time when the defendant was very unwell.
“I accept it was an impulsive action but it involved a vulnerable child who was in custody,” said District Judge Preston.
“You are now stable on medication and, I hope, getting better.”
Deborah Morgan, in mitigation, said her client had "clearly" been very unwell when he committed the offence in October, and had been suffering from undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenia.
