A Clitheroe-based bakery has created its own version of a chocolate cake that has gone viral on TikTok.
Studio Bakery, a family-run business founded by Allison Metcalf, has created The Matlida Cake, a decadent cake with layers of rich ganache.
Allison said she decided to create the bake after seeing a cake made by Leeds-based company Get Baked.
The business' Bruce cake, described as having “24 layers of rich chocolate goodness” has gone TikTok famous, with videos on their social media channels amassing millions of views.
The Get Baked cake, which is known for selling out soon after being restocked, is named after the Roald Dahl character in Matilda, Bruce Bogtrotter, who famously was forced to eat a large and decadent cake in the book and films.
Allison said: “I had seen the craze on TikTok for the Bruce cake and decided that I would use one of my recipes to create my version.
"My recipe has lashings of double cream and Belgian chocolate to create my luxurious signature ganache filling, I think it’s better than Bruce!”
The entirety of Allison’s cake weighs 11kg and each slice is 1.1kg.
She said: “The cakes are cooked low and slow to give it the rich fudgy texture. There are three cakes and they bake for more than an hour.
“Once cooled we then slice them to create the 12 layers, and the assembly begins.
"They’re packed full of Belgian chocolate to make them super decadent and delicious and then smothered in our signature ganache.
“The cake weighs a whopping 11kgs and each slice is 1.1kg. With more than 6kg of ganache smothered between 12 layers of chocolate cake – this cake stands 24 layers high and is an impressive nine inches tall.”
Since posting about the cake on social media, customers have been excited to try it.
“We’re delighted with the feedback we’ve had on my version of The Matilda Cake,” Allison said.
My recipe is such a fudgy, moist, rich and decadent cake, our customers can’t get enough of it.
My secret tip to enjoy it even more is to pop a slice in the microwave for 20 seconds to enjoy the gooey ganache even more.”
The Studio Bakery Matilda Cake is on sale now and is £15 a slice, available whilst stocks last from The Bake House shop in Clitheroe.
In Matilda, Bruce is forced to eat a full 18-inch cake as punishment for stealing a slice of Miss Trunchbull's cake - as such the slice is recommended for sharing.
Studio Bakery recently launched on Just Eat, so this cake could be ordered via the app and delivered to your door to enjoy at home.
Allison said: “The online shop will be live from April 18 for nationwide delivery, so customers could order a slice as a surprise for friends and relatives around the country, so they can enjoy the latest TikTok cake craze too.”
