The crime rate in Blackburn with Darwen increased for the second month in a row in February, figures show.

Data from police.uk shows 1,555 crimes were committed in the borough in February – a slight increase in January when there were 1,476 recorded crimes.

Like last month, violence and sexual offences topped the list for the highest number of recorded crimes.

Using the data, it’s possible to map exactly where each crime took place in the borough and to determine how many instances of each crime there was.

Of the 14 crimes listed in the data, there were seven increases and seven decreases.

The biggest percentage increase was ‘other crime’, which went up by more than 47 per cent.

The others changed as follows:

  • Violence and sexual offences – 530 (Jan) – 534 (Feb) – up 0.75 per cent
  • Anti-social behaviour – 347 (Jan) – 333 (Feb) – down 4.03 per cent
  • Shoplifting – 106 (Jan) – 155 (Feb) – up 46.22 per cent
  • Criminal damage and arson – 107 (Jan) – 111 (Feb) – up 3.73 per cent
  • Vehicle crime – 87 (Jan) – 98 (Feb) – up 12.64 per cent
  • Other theft – 69 (Jan) – 94 (Feb) – up 36.23 per cent
  • Public order – 73 (Jan) – 81 (Feb) – up 10.95 per cent
  • Burglary – 63 (Jan) – 57 (Feb) – down 9.52 per cent
  • Other crime – 23 (Jan) – 34 (Feb) – up 47.81 per cent
  • Drugs – 33 (Jan) – 28 (Feb) – down 15.15 per cent
  • Robbery – 12 (Jan) – 10 (Feb) – down 16.66 per cent
  • Theft from person – 8 (Jan) – 6 (Feb) – down 25 per cent
  • Bike theft – 2 (Jan) – 1 (Feb) – down 50 per cent

In the other five East Lancashire boroughs, only one reported an increase in its recorded crime for February.

Hyndburn, which had 854 crimes in the first month of the year, went up to 894 in February, an increase of 4.68 per cent.

Rossendale posted the biggest decrease, going down by 6.51 per cent from 568 to 531.

This was followed by Ribble Valley going from 262 to 252, a drop of 3.81 per cent, and Burnley dropping by 3.42 per cent from 1,081 crimes to 1,044.

Finally, Pendle’s crime rate dropped by 1.41 per cent, going from 708 crimes to 698.
