Paradise Lane in Blackburn was definitely not living up to its name when this photo was taken in October 1987.
The photographer who took this photo wrote the following caption which perhaps says it all: “A young mother pushes her pram along Paradise Lane in the sunshine, a walk she would not make after dark.
“For then the back lane is the haunt of prostitutes and rent boys and the cars then parked there are occupied by men looking for more than a convenient parking place.”
There’s not a lot you can say about that!
Paradise Lane was situated off Feilden Street and was home to the Friends Meeting House. Does anyone recognise the building on the right of the picture? We think it might be St Anne’s RC Church.
