Across Blackburn a number of new business units are under construction or near completion.

From retails units to storage here are some of the new projects underway in the town. The sites were either derelict or replace dilapidated buildings and have been given a new lease of life.

Retail units at Randal Street
The former eyesore mill has been torn down and will be replaced by a number of retail units. Plans to redevelop the former Apex Mill, which has stood empty for almost a decade on the corner of Randal Street and Bold Street in Shear Brow were submitted in 2021.

A major new development is taking shape on Carl Fogarty Way opposite the Tesco store on Hill Street.

Arctic Glass is currently based on Furthergate Business Park and is to build a stunning new showroom which will be seen by drivers as they head into Blackburn from the motorway.

Construction at sites has been under way for a number of months with a development value of £50million, which includes more than 350,000 sq ft of new buildings at Challenge Way, Philips Road and the former National Grid site at Greenbank Road. 


Lancashire Telegraph: New units at Higher Eanam
Drivers heading into and out of Blackburn may have noticed these new buildings spring up on Higher Eanam. The structures are 10,000 square feet and 4,000 square feet in size and accessed by two new roads off Dock Street with parking and a service yard.

Weir Street development
The dilapidated units on Weir Street close to the town centre were torn down last year. In their place two new large units have sprung up in record time.
Brickwork on the front of the buildings is currently being completed.

Wainwright Way development
The land opposite Home Bargains on the corner of King Street and Wainwright Way has been cleared to make way for six commercial units. Plans show five commercial units together next to one another and the sixth nearby, all with off-street parking.

Whalley Banks Retails units/showroom
The shutters have already gone on and the building is still being constructed. Many will remember this stretch of businesses as hosting tool hire company HSS Hire. The units were torn down and a new two-storey showroom will take its place.
