A man in his 50s has died after a car struck him before hitting a wall.
The incident happened just after 8.30pm on Sunday in Colne Road, Brierfield.
Police responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a BMW M5 and then going into a wall close to a bus stop in Colne Road.
Emergency services attended and found a pedestrian unresponsive and he was later pronounced dead.
Police say work is ongoing to establish the circumstances of what led to the crash and to locate the driver of the BMW.
A 28-year-old man from Brierfield and a 40-year-old man from Manchester have been arrested and remain in custody.
Sgt Michael Harrison, of Lancashire Police’s roads policing unit, said: “This collision has resulted in a man losing his life and my thoughts are very much with his loved ones at this difficult time.
“Although we have made two arrests, our enquiries are very much ongoing to establish what led to the collision and identify everyone involved.
“With that in mind, I would ask for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam, doorbell, or CCTV footage which captures the BMW M5 in Brierfield prior to the collision to contact the police as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information, dashcam, CCTV, doorbell, or mobile phone footage should email SCIU@lancashire.police.uk or call 101, quoting log 1128 of March 31, 2024.
