The site of the former Whitebirk power station was transformed into one of the area’s first out of town retail parks in the 1980s.
This aerial photo shows the retail park with MFI at the bottom of the photo and Payless, another DIY superstore, in the centre of the development.
On the right, bordering the Leeds Liverpool Canal, was Queensway Carpets.
Top left you can a second part of the retail park under construction which would become home to various motor dealers.
