Soap star Amy Nuttall has recreated a song to help with her grief which she played to her mum in the final days before she died.

The song is a tribute to her mum, Elaine, who tragically died from a brain tumour.

After losing her mum to a glioblastoma brain tumour last October, the Blackburn-born former Emmerdale actress teamed up with the Brain Tumour Charity to raise vital awareness.

As part of this, Amy released the song, ‘Thank You Mother’, last Sunday, on Mother’s Day.

‘Thank You Mother’ was written by an Irish songwriter called John Hurley and Amy was first introduced to the song in her early twenties, when she was asked to perform it for Gloria Hunniford. 

The song is a tribute to her mother after Amy, who attended Bury Grammar School, became her full-time carer alongside her sister and dad.

Elaine was a familiar face to many theatregoers having appeared in many productions in Bolton and across Lancashire.

Elaine lived in Tonge Moor, Horwich and Lostock, before moving with her family to Hoghton near Preston.

She died on October 30 at the age of 68 and Amy decided to release the song as a way to “do something that would help” with her grief.

Elaine had performed with Marco Players, Phoenix Theatre, Farnworth Little Theatre, Farnworth Performing Arts, and more - with her daughter Amy following in her footsteps to become a professional actress.

Those who knew her described her as a ‘kind’, ‘talented’, and ‘wonderful’ person, who was a friend to many.

She donated hundreds of pounds to support theatres during the pandemic through the sale of her paintings.

Amy, well-known for her role in the hit television series, Downton Abbey, will be performing ‘Thank You Mother’ at the Smiley Charity Film Awards in London on March 20. 

The Smiley Charity Film Awards is a ceremony celebrating the success of film in fundraising, encouraging donations for all registered charities, and increasing the exposure of charity films.
