A fish and chip shop in Oswaldtwistle is the ‘best in Lancashire’ and among the best in the UK, after an award win.
Fry Magazine, a trade communication outlet for the fish and chip industry, has revealed its 50 best fish and chip takeaways and Westend Fish and Chips has been mentioned.
It is the only Lancashire eatery to have been mentioned.
The awards recognise operators that “set the gold standard in food quality, customer service and marketing”.
According to co-owner Deryn Regan, mystery diners gave the flavour and texture of the fish and chips a perfect 100 per cent rating.
She said: “As a whole team we are happy and very excited. It is nice to be acknowledged for the hard work we put in as a team.
“It’s amazing to be number one in Lancashire. It is a huge achievement. We work so hard to produce good quality, traditional, fish and chips.”
Deryn said the fish and chip shop is firmly established within the community.
She said: “As a team we have a laugh and joke with our customers and each other.
"We also like to be involved in our community too, we know about our customers and support them.
"We take food to our elderly customers and will even take them some extra milk over if they need it.
“We really are part of the community.
“We have suffered a few challenges at the moment with the price of everything going up but we are always trying to make meals more affordable for customers.
“We are so happy as a team and I want to thank customers and staff. Without them we wouldn’t have this recognition.”
Reece Head, competition organiser, says: “It gives me great pleasure to announce this year’s 50 Best Fish and Chip Takeaways and 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants winners.
“Despite the formidable challenges posed by inflationary pressures that have affected every aspect of the industry, these remarkable establishments continue to deliver top quality fish and chips using the finest ingredients.
“Their dedication extends beyond the plate, as they invest in cutting-edge equipment to facilitate seamless and swift transactions, coupled with rigorous training in customer service.
"Uncompromising in their standards, they are truly the best in the business and deserve their recognition.”
