A charity which provides bereavement support to families who have lost a child has been presented with its cheque from its local authority.
The Great Harwood group 'Milly’s Smiles' was given a £2,200 grant from Hyndburn Council's Community Chest fund.
The charity runs monthly support sessions focused on creative activities, such as art therapy, for a period of six months.
These sessions offer a safe and supportive space for parents, grandparents, and siblings struggling with the loss of a child, regardless of the child's age.
Founder of Milly's Smiles, Lorraine Hargreaves, said: “The agony of losing a child is unparalleled.
“No parent or grandparent expects to face such a tragedy.
"We are incredibly grateful for the council's support through this grant, which will allow us to continue offering much-needed bereavement support to families in our community.
"This funding will make a real difference to the lives of people experiencing such a difficult time.”
The grant will cover the costs of hiring a qualified craft tutor, purchasing art supplies, refreshments for attendees, room rental, heating, and administration costs.
Cllr Steven Smithson, who presented the cheque along with fellow deputy leader of Hyndburn Council Cllr Peter Britcliffe, said, "We are proud to support this important initiative that provides a safe space for healing during a time of immense grief.
"I'm honoured to support vital services such as these through the Community Chest Fund."
