Residents living near a historic suburban East Lancashire sports club have been invited to a special 'drop in day' to find out more about a multi-million redevelopment.

The scheme at The Feniscowles and Pleasington War Memorial Recreation Ground was approved by Blackburn with Darwen Council planning committee in August.

Now the trust, which runs the club in Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn - known as the 'Feni Rec' -wants to hear local people and sports fans views on the project to redevelop its pavilion and grounds.

The 'drop in day' is on Saturday, March 9, from 10.30am to 4pm.

The trust proposes to knock down its existing clubhouse and build a new larger one and create a multi-use games area pitch.

The scheme - estimated to cost in excess of £3 million - would see the relocation of the club's tennis courts and cricket nets, a new groundskeeper's store, the slight repositioning of the junior football pitch and repositioned and upgraded children's playground.

The five-acre complex was given to the public in 1921 as a memorial to 36 local men who died in the First World War.

Chair of trustees, Jane Green, said: "We want to listen to people's opinion on the development plans for this great facility.

"It is important that as many of our community as possible join in the consultation so that the trustees ensure we are providing facilities that are important to our area.

"Their views will help towards applications for grant funding which will in turn help us towards achieving our ambitious project.

"Please come on down and look at the overall plans we have and let us have your thoughts.

"If you don’t tell us we don’t know, so don’t miss this opportunity to shape the future on Feni Rec."
