A Grade II listed building, once an activity centre for the Lancashire Girl Guides, has gone on sale for a guide price of more than £3Million.

Waddow Hall, just outside of Clitheroe, is being marketed by Savills, after the national Girlguiding association earmarked it as one of five centres to sell as it could no longer afford the upkeep.

The decision caused much upset and  a special Waddow Hall Trust was set up as a charitable company with the aim of raising around £5 million to buy the centre last summer.

UK estate agent Savills has listed the property at a guide price of £3,250,000.

Savills describe the sale as a "unique opportunity' to acquire a historic hall with a 178 acres estate in the Ribble Valley.

The 'manor house' dates back to 17th Century Manor House, and has 29 bedrooms with additional accommodation provided across the estate in two residential cottages, nine self-contained campsites with toilets and washing facilities.

Girlguiding, which is headquartered in London, said five activity centres would be sold ‘because of the investment needed and the reduced number of members using them in the past decade’.

As well as Waddow Hall, they are Blackland Farm in Sussex, Foxlease in Hampshire, Glenbrook in Derbyshire and Ynysgain, on the edge of Snowdonia National Park.

Those upset at its closure said many families had grown up with the Guides and had fond memories of Waddow Hall.

They described moves to sell it as "truly heart-breaking and awful".

“The centre has been used by generations for decades and people have been involved with their local guides for many years," said one.
