A man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage following an incident at Blackburn Town Hall.

The incident happened earlier just after 10am (Friday) at the main Blackburn Town Hall reception and work was being conducted to repair the damage.

Blackburn with Darwen Council said this morning: “Members of the public are asked to avoid entering Blackburn Town Hall reception following an incident this morning, resulting in damage to equipment.

"There is ongoing work for clean-up and repairs.

“We will update you as soon as we are able to re-open. Apologies for any inconvenience.”

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 10.10am today to a report of public order.

"A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and is currently in custody."
