Details have emerged about Jordan North’s new radio job and one of his colleagues has taken a funny “swipe” at the announcement.
Jordan, a former St James' Lanehead Primary School pupil, posted the update to his 842,000 Instagram followers.
Hundreds have since commented, including fellow BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James who appeared to take a light-hearted ‘swipe’ at Jordan for switching companies.
He said “enjoy the money, Jane”, an apparent reference to a rant from a losing Come Dine With Me contestant, that has circulated online.
One person said it was the “best comment on the internet” with others praising Greg as “champion of the internet”.
Jordan will replace Roman Kemp, who announced he would be stepping down from his role on the Capital show on Monday (February 19).
He has hosted the Capital Breakfast show for 10 years and told listeners his final show will be Thursday, March 28.
Announcing his replacement live on air, Kemp said; “You are going to absolutely love this, Jordan. I have so much faith in you mate.
“It’s hard leaving, it feels like your child, but you want it to go into good hands and I know with you it’s going to be just that.
“Everyone, send as much love as possible to Jordan.”
In an Instagram post, Roman said: “So there you have it sports fans. I’m handing over the baton at the end of March
“Jordan North will be your new host of Capital Breakfast. Couldn’t have gone to a better person, top lad and will be a great addition to your morning routine. You’ll smash it bud.”
Former I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! contestant Jordan previously presented the drive-time show for Radio 1 and co-hosts the podcast Help I Sexted My Boss!
He said: “I am beyond excited to be joining Global and to wake up the nation every morning on Capital – I can’t wait to start working with the amazing team here and get stuck in, to create the most fun and entertaining breakfast show.
“Getting to host Capital Breakfast has always been a dream of mine and it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I simply couldn’t turn down.
“Big love to [Roman] who has been a class act throughout it all.”
Ashley Tabor-King, founder and executive president of Capital’s parent company Global, said: “This is a great signing for Capital and it’s a genuine pleasure to welcome Jordan to the Global family.
“Jordan’s a hugely experienced radio presenter and his warmth, genuine relatability and energy, combined with a spirit for mischief and unrivalled knowledge of hit music, is a perfect fit for Capital breakfast.
“Jordan is on the up and up and his time is now. A very warm welcome to Capital, Jordan!”
Jamie Laing will join Vick Hope to co-host Going Home on Radio 1, from Monday 4 March. The show is broadcast from 3.30pm until 6pm, Monday to Thursday.
