A teenager is to stand trial in connection with a 'stabbing' incident in Burnley earlier this year.

Kyle Kaylor, 19, was not arraigned at the plea and trial preparation hearing, as there are issues of identification in the case, as one witness refused to provide an formal witness statement.

However, a trial date was set for July 15, while Kaylor, of Cog Lane, Burnley, will next be in court on May 20.

The case relates to an incident which happened on January 20 in Hargher Clough Park, Burnley, when the alleged victim was standing at a bus stop and saw his friend being chased by another man.

It is alleged he intervened and was confronted by a man carrying a knife, and during the incident he is alleged to have suffered a cut to his ear and it is also said the knife was thrust towards his chest, though this did not cause further injury.

Kaylor has been charged with possession of a knife and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

Judge Sara Dodd said: “As you heard, the trial will take place on July 15.

"You will be brought back to court on May 20 where we can determine any application to dismiss this case.

“If you do not attend the trial for good reason, we will simply do it without you.”
