Plans have been re-submitted for an eco-home near the Grade II listed Read Hall after the council initially refused development due to it being “visually harmful” to the area.
Mr and Mrs Cross are looking to build the house at the rear of the hall, off Hammond Drive in the village of Read.
They currently live in the village and are looking to remain in the area by repurposing the existing plot to create a sustainable, modern eco-home.
A personal statement submitted as part of their application said they had lived in the village for 15 years and after a meeting with another resident, were offered a plot of land with the potential for development.
This coincided with their plans to relocate to a property better suited to their needs while remaining in the village community they had become accustomed to.

A decision notice from Ribble Valley Borough Council for the last application said the proposal would lead to the creation of a residential dwelling outside the settlement without sufficient justification and that the large, dominant design would have a visually harmful impact on the rural character of the area.
A new design and access statement submitted to the council said: “We re-iterate that this new house has been designed with the client’s retirement plans and factoring in adaptability if their health deteriorates during the later years of their life in mind.

“Driving the design process for the project was the applicant’s passion and desire to create a highly sustainable, semi-rural development maximising natural light and the feeling of being outdoors, integrating passive energy features into the design.
“The recent planning refusal has informed this resubmission with regard to addressing matters of the design of the house, neighbouring residential amenity and the site-wide issues including the root protection area of the woodland.
“The brief for the house design has not altered with the exception of the removal of the external terrace area and a reduction in the overall footprint.”
The planned one-storey house will have three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an office, and a large open-plan room containing a kitchen and living area.
