Residents of the Ribble Valley are being urged to give their opinions in a fresh review of how affordable housing is allocated in the borough.

Ribble Valley Council is asking people to contribute to ensure affordable housing is being allocated to those most in need of it.

The council’s affordable housing allocation policy determines who can register for affordable housing, their position on the affordable housing waiting list, and makes nominations to registered affordable housing providers.

Currently, anyone with a Ribble Valley connection has the right to register for affordable housing in the borough, irrespective of their housing situation.

Consequently, the council thinks the waiting list may not be a true reflection of affordable housing need.

The proposed changes will prioritise local households with a Ribble Valley connection in genuine affordable housing need, and now residents are being encouraged to chip in with their views on the plan.

The documents and summary of changes can be seen at the Ribble Valley Council website, and residents have until midnight on Sunday, March 31, to respond.
