Residents in Blackburn are being advised to get rid and dispose of any scrap metal or unwanted items they may have lying in their yards and gardens after reports of some suspicious activity.

Police say they have received information about several individuals looking into the back yards of properties in the Shear Brow area of the town and are warning people to be vigilant before opportunist thieves strike.

A spokesperson for the police said on Friday evening (February 16): “We have received some information that there are several individuals looking into residents’ backyards in the Shear Brow area of Blackburn.

“Please can I request that all residents dispose of scrap metal/unwanted items in the appropriate manner.

“Opportunists are always on the lookout to steal items and will enter gardens if they believe there is something of value to them.

“If gardens are clean and there is nothing out of place, this will reduce the chance of becoming a victim.”

The police have advised that there are appropriate places in Blackburn to safely dispose of waste, and are asking people to head to Blackburn with Darwen Council’s website where there is more information available.
