Four apartments are set to be built on the site of a disused garage after plans were approved by the council.

Mr and Mrs S Turner applied to Ribble Valley Borough Council to demolish the former site of The Tyremen in Clitheroe and build four one-bedroom apartments.

The site is within Clitheroe town centre, on Parson Street, and is within walking distance of all shops, community facilities, and public transport access at the bus station and Clitheroe railway station.

A planning statement submitted to Ribble Valley Council said: “The layout of the apartments offers open-plan living space with the main aspect towards Station Road.

“The design of the building is so that it is complementary to the existing local building stock using similar materials and details.

“A limited amount of outdoor space is provided, with discreet enclosed areas for bins and a platform lift to create level access.

“No parking is provided as the site is within the town centre. Bicycle storage is provided within the building for residents.

“The site comprises a modern commercial garage premises last used as a tyre depot, vehicle repair, and servicing and MOT testing centre.

“The office to The Tyremen occupied the ground floor unit at the very rear of 28-30 Parson Street. This office does not form part of the application site.”

The Tyremen has moved to a new premises in Clitheroe, leaving this site vacant for development.

The replacement of the former commercial building will reduce the associated noise, activity, and commercial deliveries once coming to the site, benefitting the surrounding neighbours.

Following approval by the council, work must begin on the site within the next three years.
