Blackburn Rovers’ mascot, Rover the Dog, is preparing for an ‘epic’ a penalty shoot-out battle at an hilarious pre-match activity this weekend.
This Saturday (February 10) will see Blackburn Rovers’ Rover the dog and Stoke City’s Pottermus the hippo take part in a mascot vs mascot penalty shoot-out prior to their teams actual game.
Leading pet brand, Webbox, has organised the animal-themed play off as part of its role as official pet sponsor for Blackburn Rovers.
Alongside the on-pitch fun, the brand has organised a takeover of the family stand, complete with mascot selfies, Webbox goody bags and the chance to predict the winner of the dog vs hippo penalty shoot-out, with official team merchandise up for grabs as the prize for those who correctly predict the outcome.
The event, which is free to enjoy onsite for all attending fans, is a key part of the brand’s sponsorship which focuses on team, fan and community-engagement activity throughout the 2024 season.
Webbox is one of the UK’s fastest growing pet care brands and is manufactured by Blackburn-based parent company, Pets Choice.
Lisa Melvin, head of marketing at Pets Choice, said: “Webbox is proud to be the official pet sponsor of Blackburn Rovers this season, and we’re having great fun engaging with the team, its fans, our colleagues and the wider community throughout the season.
“We know the stands are going to be roaring with excitement once the mascots take to the pitch for their friendly shoot-out; after all, it’s not every day you see a sporting dog and hippo do battle in front of a crowd of 15,000!
“We can’t wait to hear the fans’ predictions and to see the final result, as well as to help spectators take selfies with the mascots, share Webbox treats for fans’ four legged friends, and, of course, to watch some great real life football in the process.”
