What did The Times say about the Forest of Bowland?
Described as “much quieter” than the Yorkshire Dales, Forest of Bowland is said to have a “special scientific interest” as well as a spot that will “impress foodies”.
The Times list says: “Much quieter than the neighbouring Yorkshire Dales, this 310 square mile area of natural beauty has rugged moorland, gritstone fells and farmland to explore (the historic moniker of “forest” can be rather misleading).
“Explore the 14th-century ruins of Whalley Abbey, or take in rousing views of the walkers’ favourite, Beacon Fell Country Park.
“Bowland is also a designated site of special scientific interest thanks to its proliferation of brown hares, bats, moths and birds, from oystercatchers to peregrine falcons.
“The Coach and Horses, on the forest’s eastern side, is a restored coaching inn that will impress foodies, with an elegant, locally led menu including dishes such as Eaves Hall Farm pork loin with salt-baked celeriac (mains from £19.50).”
