Dozens of motorists were caught speeding on two roads in Clitheroe which have been complained about by residents.

Officers conducted speed checks on Henthorn Road and Eshton Terrace, where the speed limit is 20mph.

On one hour on Henthorn Road, 15 vehicles were caught exceeding 25mph with some motorists reaching speeds of 32mph.

On Eshton Terrace, 13 vehicles were caught exceeding speeds of 25 mph, the highest being 32mph.

Both of these areas have been highlighted as areas “of concern”.

A police spokesperson said: “This morning [police] conducted speed checks on Henthorn Road and Eshton Terrace, Clitheroe.

“In the one hour on Henthorn, 15 vehicles were exceeding 25 mph, the highest being 31mph.

“On Eshton Terrace, 13 vehicles were exceeding 25mph, the highest being 32mph. One vehicle came back four times to chance his luck!

“The legal limit for both roads is 20mph although we only contact those driving at 25mph or above.

“Both these areas have been highlighted as being of concern. This is the third time doing [speed checks] in these areas and we do them in response to complaints from the public.

“We will continue to monitor speeding in these and other areas around your community.”
