Children from a Darwen primary school choir are spreading festive joy through song.
The Avondale Primary School Choir, made up of more than 50 children from the Durham Road school, are in more demand than ever this year performing at events across the town and at care homes.
Their first official performance was in front of hundreds of people at the ‘Carols in the Woods’ event – organised by the Friends of Sunnyhurst Woods - with their rendition of ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’.
Yet it’s the 12 Days of Christmas which remains the youngster’s firm favourite from their repertoire.
Jen Wormald, who leads the choir at Avondale, said: “We are so proud of how much of their own time the children are giving to performing and helping to spread Christmas cheer.
“It’s lovely for them to be out in the community, performing at events and at care homes too.
“They always go down a Christmas treat with lots of smiles in the audience and loud clapping, and they’ve been known to be ‘paid’ in chocolate which is a nice bonus for them!
“The children are showing such wonderful community spirit and having lots of festive fun along the way.”
