Burnley Football Club is looking into “unacceptable” behaviour from fans at Saturday’s (December 16) game against Everton.

There were reports of problems arising after away fans were allowed into the home sections at Turf Moor.

A video on social media shows people fighting in the stands, arguing and fighting.

One Twitter user said children were “screaming and crying”.

They said: “Away fans in the home end. Disgraceful scenes with kids screaming and crying, stewards ineffective. Shameful. Away fans have been there on a number of occasions. Not good enough at all.”

Another said: ”In 14 years of going to Turf I’ve never seen anything like it. Feel completely let down with the lack of response or urgency by the club.”

“I spent a good part of the first half hiding in the ladies toilets with my terrified daughter… we didn’t feel safe even there,” another said.

Burnley FC said it has launched “an immediate internal enquiry” into the incident.

A spokesperson for Burnley FC said: "We are aware of the problems that arose as a result of away supporters being in some home sections at Turf Moor for the match against Everton on Saturday.

“We have launched an immediate internal enquiry and want to assure our fans their safety is our top priority and the situation that arose was unacceptable.”

Sean Dyche enjoyed a standing ovation on his return to Burnley before his in-form Everton side silenced Turf Moor with a 2-0 win which increases the Clarets’ relegation worries at the foot of the Premier League table

Dyche was back at the ground where he spent the best part of 10 years in charge, twice earning promotion and keeping Burnley in the top flight against the odds before being sacked in April 2022.

Everton FC has been approached for comment.
