A Darwen primary school have worked hard to raise money for a children’s cancer charity.
The pupils at St Cuthbert’s Church of England primary school have raised a staggering £500 for Maddi’s Butterflies, which was set up following the death of Madison Allan, aged seven, in 2011 from Neuroblastoma.
The children held a pyjama day and cake sale from November 13 to 17 which received several pairs of new pyjamas to donate as part of the annual pyjama appeal.
Helen Foster, a trustee for Maddi’s Butterflies and teacher at the school, said: “The school council put their heads together and came up with the idea of a weeklong cake sale and on the last day a PJ day, where all children and staff wore their pyjamas in return of a £1 donation.”
The week after the cake sale, the charity mascot Oscar paid the school a visited during their celebration worship.
Oscar was awarded the cheque from one of the pupils who Maddi’s Butterflies had previously granted a wish for during his treatment.
Helen added: “The children and staff put so much effort into the fundraiser and the charity have been absolutely blown away by their generosity.”
Maddi’s Butterflies supports children and families during challenging hospital stays and aim to provide children and their families with toys, nightwear, and activities to help with the financial, practical, and emotional burdens families face.
