A Netflix film that was inspired by the life of a Burnley businessman joins the most searched films on Netflix this year among Barbie, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Oppenheimer.
Bank of Dave which follows entrepreneur Dave Fishwick was filmed in Burnley and other parts of East Lancashire.
The film was number one on Netflix’s most streamed movies for a short time and even won the best feature film award at the National Film Awards in July.
Google recently released its annual "Year in Search" report for 2023 which reveals that Bank of Dave has secured the ninth position among the most searched movies on Netflix in the UK – beating Creed 3.
The film shares the stage with global hits like Oppenheimer and Barbie which were the two most searched films in 2023.
Responding to the news on X (formerly Twitter), Dave Fishwick said: “Amazing! The Bank of Dave Movie has hit the global headlines alongside the amazing Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie for being in the Top Ten Most Searched Films of 2023!”
Fans of the Burnley-based film shared their excitement with on user writing: “It’s the best film I’ve watched this year.”
The film stars Joel Fry, Phoebe Dynevor, Rory Kinnear (as Dave), Hugh Bonneville, Paul Kaye, and Jo Hartley, and tells the story of how the Burnley native took on the big banks and won.
Netflix confirmed they will be making a sequel to Bank of Dave which is set be produced by Tempo Productions and Future Artists and will see the return of the director with Chris Foggin.
Filming for Bank of Dave 2 is set to commence early in 2024.
