This is a building which will have a special place in the heart of many families in the Ribble Valley.
Taken in 1946, this shows Bramley Meade three years before it became a maternity home. The former home of textile manufacturer Richard Thompson, the impressive property was built in 1882 in three acres of land off Wiswell Road, Whalley.
Thousands of babies were born here but Bramley Meade would be sold in the early 1990s as maternity facilities across East Lancashire were centralised. The property would become a private home.
Were you a Bramley Meade mum or baby or perhaps you worked there? We’d love to share your memories and any photos you might have. Email bygones@nqnw.co.uk or leave a comment.
