A driver has been arrested for drink-driving after they were caught almost three times the legal alcohol limit.
This afternoon (December 4), officers in Rossendale spotted a Honda speeding at 38mph in a 30mph zone.
The driver was stopped and made to do a roadside test. They provided a sample of breath containing 102 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath, almost three times the legal limit of 35mcg.
A spokesperson for the police said: “Quick update from our shift so far: as well as progressing various other investigations the team have been out earlier on supporting Operarion Virage.
“This is to target drink and drug drivers over the winter period. As we know impaired driving through drink or drugs is extremely reckless and poses huge dangers to road users and pedestrians alike. Unfortunately however, people are still doing it.
“Whilst we were conducting a stop check site on Blackburn Road at Acre, Rossendale we clocked the below Honda travelling at 38mph in a 30mph zone. We stopped and spoke to the driver who later provided us with a sample of breath at the roadside of 102 - the legal limit being 35.
“The driver was arrested and later in custody provided an evidential sample of breath with the lowest reading being 89mcg. Two and a half times the limit.
” We'll be back out this afternoon and throughout the coming weeks. If in doubt, don’t drive.”
