Runners braved the sub-zero temperatures to take part in this year’s Blackburn 10K run.
Hundreds gathered on Sunday morning (December 3) at the starting point of Ewood Park.
The course headed out onto Bolton Road and then took a left over the iconic blue bridge, into the town centre, passing the cathedral, King George’s Hall and the Mall.
The run then follows King Street and the slight incline is probably the biggest test for most novice runners as they make their way along Whalley Banks and Redlam.
Some of the more accomplished runners had reached the halfway point within 20 minutes.
A left at the busy Buncer Lane junction and the run then heads back along through Mill Hill and Stancliffe Street to Blackburn Rovers' Ewood Park.
The event was planned by Run Through in partnership with the Blackburn Rovers Community Trust and supported by Blackburn Rovers and Blackburn with Darwen Council.
Organisers had teams of marshals along the route to assist people and guide them as they made their way through the course.
Residents and friends joined the route to cheer on the participants with many more gathered at Ewood Park to welcome them back.
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust’s charity, ELHT&Me, were announced as the new charity partner for this year’s Blackburn 10K run.
The event was being supported by Blackburn-based Star Tissue UK, with runners passing the business itself as they head back to Ewood.
Along the route an elderly gentleman who was not part of the run collapsed on Redlam.
Runners and passers-by helped the man and an ambulance team was on site quickly to assist him.
The man was conscious and had injured his face.
The winner of this year's race was Tim Raynes from Blackburn Harriers with a completed time of 32 minutes and nine seconds.
The runner up this year is Dan Tate, with a completed time of 33 minutes and two seconds.
Third place is Callum Townsend from Peak Performance, with a time of 33 minutes and 13 seconds.
The quickest female runner was Carla Davies from Preston Harriers, with a time of 35 minutes and two seconds.
