A Shawarma takeaway and restaurant has taken up a spot opposite the Farmfoods store in Blackburn town centre.

Sultan Shawarma underwent major renovations and features seating for up to 40 people on the second floor. The takeaway in King Street had formerly been an Italian eatery.

The shawarma kebab is popular in Turkey and amongst the Kurdish population and is made of roasted layers of chicken, lamb, beef, or other meat which are finely sliced.

It can be served with pitta bread, naans or rice.

In Blackburn, there are few shawarma kebab specialists with diners keen to try out new places with authentic recipes.

Manager Dadwaar Akram said: “We have a range of Kurdish and Middle-Eastern dishes.

“As well as the famous Shawarma, we have lamb chops, kofte kebabs, chicken shish and kobeda kebabs.

“There are also some authentic recipes and we really do hope that people will come down to sample the menu for themselves.”

Lancashire Telegraph: Diners on the opening date were delighted with the food

Lancashire Telegraph:

The takeaway opened for the first time over the weekend and already a steady stream of customers could be seen trying out their first taste of 'authentic' shawarma.

Dadwaar added: “It was something we wanted to do.

“A lot of work has gone into the renovations and it is good to be based here close to the town centre and on a busy road.”

The Sultan Shawarma is based next to New Look Barbers, which opened in 2011.

Muner Edan said: “It is great for a new business to be opening on the stretch and great for the town centre.

"It is positive for this part of town."
