A charity football football tournament raised an amazing £1,300 for a range of local causes.
Teams from Specsavers stores in Bolton, Hyde, Leigh and Burnley took part in the first Specsavers Lancashire Football Charity Tournament at Power League Bolton in Leverhulme Park earlier this month.
Their aim was to raise funds for Bolton Hospice, Derian House Children’s Hospice, Dementia UK and Wigan and Leigh Hospice.
Also taking part in the tournament was the NHS eye health provider and official sponsor of the event, Spa Medica.
Organised by Umayr Zahid, the event saw funds shared equally between each store’s chosen charity.
Director at Specsavers Bolton, Robert Ogg said: "It’s an honour to have raised so much money for local causes, which are all very close to our hearts.
"There was a healthy level of local rivalry on the pitches and all those who took part couldn’t be happier with the overall result. As we’ve always said, the real winners are the charities we’re helping to support."
Umayr said: "The concept behind the tournament was to bring people together in the name of sport, while raising funds for causes that make a real difference to those who are less fortunate. I think we can confidently say 'mission accomplished'.
‘The aim now is to open the net wider and encourage more teams to take part next year, so we can continue to support local charities."
