It’s hard to believe the virtually everything featured on this photo is no longer standing.
Taken in 1963 it shows the Salford area of Blackburn looking towards Penny Street. Both the pubs you can see - the Bay Horse on the left and the Lord Nelson on the right - would be demolished within a year of this being taken as part of the regeneration of Blackburn town centre.
You can also see the distinctive dome of the Odeon Cinema which fared slightly better, being demolished in 1974.
Nice to see a Blackburn Corporation double decker in the foreground.
