A man has been injured after fireworks and bottles have been thrown inside and outside a train station resulting in services being delayed and altered.

British Transport Police were called to Horwich Parkway station at around 6.20pm today, Saturday, after receiving reports that bottles and fireworks had been thrown both inside and outside the station.

The disorder has resulted in one man suffering injuries, although the severity of those injuries sustained is not yet known.

As a result, some trains between Bolton and Preston have been delayed, with others running non-stop.

Northern has since said that they will not be serving stations between Horwich Parkway and Preston which includes Blackrod, Adlington, Chorley, Buckshaw Parkway, and Leyland.

The police are now appealing for information. 

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "We were called to Horwich Parkway station at around 6.20pm today following reports of fireworks and bottles being thrown inside and outside the station.

"One man obtained injuries.

"Anyone with any information is urged to contact us as soon as possible on 61016, quoting 524 of November 11."
