Royal British Legion Blackburn raised more than £3,000 last weekend for charity, with a firework and bonfire evening that saw 2,000 borough residents attend.

The £3,000 was split between two charities, with £1,571.31 given to The Fire Fighters Charity, and rest to Poppy Appeal.

The Blackburn Family Bonfire and Fireworks saw more than 2,000 people donating and supporting both charities on Saturday, November 4.

Branch chair and Poppy Appeal organiser, Neil Shorrock, said: "It is fantastic to see the huge support from local residents for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and the Fire Fighters charity.

"I am thrilled to have handed this cheque to Tom from Lancashire Fire and Rescue for the Fire Fighters Charity.

"I'd like to thank all the volunteers from Royal British Legion Blackburn and all the volunteers from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service who have worked tirelessly to deliver this huge community event."

The Blackburn Poppy Appeal runs until and including Saturday, November 11, and there are many locations for people to collect their poppies and to support the great work the Royal British Legion provides for the Armed Forces community.

Neil added: "Whatever you donate will help, wear your poppy with pride as your poppy shows you care."

In Blackburn with Darwen, a Remembrance Concert took place at King George’s Hall on Thursday, November 9.

On Saturday, November 11, Remembrance Services will take place at Blackburn Town Hall and in Darwen Market Square, while on Remembrance Sunday services will take place at St Peter's Church, Darwen, and Blackburn Cathedral, followed by parades and wreath laying services.
