IT’S hard to believe that it is more than 30 years since Blackburn welcomed its new Ice Arena.
Work began on the complex in 1989 and would take over 18 months to complete. The arena was opened by Olympic and world champions Torvill and Dean in January 1991.
It’s fascinating to see the arena which is so recognisable today going up, totally transforming the Audley area of the town.
The arena was earmarked as a potential venue to host boxing had Manchester's bid for the 1996 Olympics been successful.
