An East Lancashire college is to host an open event to unveil its new engineering department.

Burnley College is hosting the Engineering Inspo event to mark the opening of the state-of-the-art Department of Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing.

Taking place on Saturday, November 11, it will give prospective students the chance to take a look at the latest equipment on offer at the college and learn about what they could be studying if they enrol in Burnley.

The £1.6 million investment has transformed the college's workshops, and is part of the leading role it is playing in the Lancashire and Cumbria Institute of Technology.

David Lord, head of construction and engineering at Burnley College, said: "We're so proud of the developments we've made over the last year and a half and so decided it was time to open our doors for everyone to explore.

“We’d be delighted to welcome engineers to take a look round and see how training has changed over the years.

"Whether you completed your training a couple of years ago or even 30 or more years ago, you’ll be fascinated by how much things have changed.

“Our goal at Burnley College is to educate, but it's so much more as well. We are here to empower the workforces and leaders of tomorrow with the skills and tools they need to soar.

"This facility stands as a beacon of that commitment.”

At the event this weekend, there will be live demonstrations of machinery, a chance to take a look behind the scenes of the workshops, take part in session to learn about the latest technology in the industry, plus a question and answer session, and guided tours.

The event takes place from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, November 11, and to register to attend visit the what's on section of the Burnley College website.
