A man had a 12-year-old boy with him when he was caught shoplifting, a court has heard.
At Blackburn Magistrates' Court, District Judge Alexandra Preston told David Talbot he should be ashamed of his behaviour.
“It is pretty grim to be out stealing from shops with a 12 year old child,” said District Judge Preston.
“It is not setting much of an example and you should be ashamed of that.”
Talbot, 36, of Pickup Street, Bacup, pleaded guilty to stealing power banks worth £48 from Asda.
He was fined £40 and ordered to pay £48 compensation and a £16 victim surcharge.
Scott Parker, prosecuting, said police were called after Talbot was seen taking the power banks and leaving the store without making any attempt to pay.
Peter King, mitigating, said when his client was stopped by the police he had the 12-year-old with him but the child had played no part in the offence.
