How the mighty are fallen!

Taken in 1970 this photo shows the statue of William Henry Hornby being moved to a new position in King William Street. It had previously stood in Limbrick looking across Sudell Cross and down Northgate but was taken down in 1968 as the statue was causing issues with traffic flow.

Alderman Hornby was the first Mayor of Blackburn and a prominent businessman and mill owner. His bronze statue was given a new home at the side of the town hall.
