THE costumes were as loud as the music as students from McNally Music Tuition proved that the future of the local music scene is in good hands.
MMT held its second annual Halloween Showcase at Sunbird Records in Darwen with 10 student bands performing live.
The sold-out show featured performers aged from 12 to adults taking to the stage. MMT had held a series of Sunday sessions to prepare the bands for the live event.
Phil McNally, owner of MMT, said: “It was a brilliant event and provided an amazing afternoon and evening of live music.
“For a couple of the younger bands this was the first time that they had played live in front of an audience and they rose the to challenge brilliantly.
“But all the bands really put on a show and raised the bar for our showcase events.
“The showcases are an important part of what we do at MMT as it gives students the opportunity to work together as a band and to play live.
“We’re now going straight from the Halloween event into preparations for our Christmas showcase at King George’s Hall in Blackburn on December 15 which promises to be spectacular.”
MMT, based on Simmons Street, Blackburn, opened in 2015 and provides opportunities for students to both learn an instrument but also become part of a band. A number of MMT bands have been in the recording studio and several have appeared on the stages of Darwen Live and Blackburn’s Confessional Festival.
The bands who took part in the Halloween Showcase were: The Preachers, Sudell Cross, Free From the Wilde, Fireflies, Karnage, The Burners, Untamed, Flawless, Ruthless and Vaporised.
“We must give a big shout out to Sunbird for hosting the event,” said Phil, “and the audience who just loved it.
“The bands went to town on the fancy dress and it created a really special atmosphere and the great thing was the audience stayed and watched all the bands. It was a really great event for us.”
