The annual Blackburn 10k race is back for 2023 in a few weeks and is expected to attract hundreds of avid runners. 

Starting at Ewood Park on Sunday December 3, the race will take participants through Blackburn town centre before returning to the stadium.

There are one five weeks to go for runners to get their entries in and to get race fit to take on the 6.2 mile loop of the town.

It is being hosted by Blackburn Rovers Community Trust and is in aid of ELHT&Me, the East Lancashire NHS Hospitals Trust's official charity.

A spokesperson for Run Through, which organises the event, said: “Following the success of our Blackburn 10k event over the last few years, we are delighted to be returning on Sunday, December 3.

“The race start time will be 9.30am and the event will finish by 11.00am.”

Starting inside the stadium, the route follows Bolton Road and over the iconic blue and white Wainwright Bridge, before a tour of Blackburn town centre, including past the cathedral and along the main shopping streets.

The route then follows Bank Top towards Witton Country Park, before turning towards Mill Hill, under the Ewood Aqueduct and returning to the stadium to be cheered into the finish by the spectators in the stands.

Advanced warning signs will be in place two weeks prior to the event, advising of traffic and road disruptions between 9am and 11.30am on the day of the run.

All impacted residents will be sent a letter explaining in more detail exact timings throughout the route four weeks prior to the event.

There will also be a residents hotline and information section on the website for impacted residents.

The following timings are approximate and indicate road closures on the day of the race:

  • 9am -11.30am – Nuttall Street, Kidder Street, Bolton Road (A666)
  • 9am-10.10am – Canterbury Street, Darwen Street, Weir Street, Freckleton Street, St Peter Street
  • 9am-10.20am – Jubilee Street, Railway Road, Astley Gate, Corporation Street
  • 9.10am-10.30am – Lord Street, King William Street, Northgate, Blakey Moor, St Paul Street
  • 9.10am-10.40am – Wainwright Way, Montague Street (A6078), Feilden Street, Barton Street, King Street
  • 9.15am-11am – Bank Top (A674)
  • 9.15am-11.30am – Spring Lane, Stancliffe Street, Hollin Bridge Street, Aqueduct Road.

Entry to the 10k race costs £26 per person, and runners can get an official Blackburn 10k t-shirt for an additional £12. Entry into the children's race costs £5.
