A home in Read was targeted by burglars, after the owners went away for the weekend.
At some point last weekend, the property, on Berkeley Drive, was subject to a burglary.
Enquiries are ongoing to discover what happened.
The police has now issued a warning to the public to ensure their property is secure, especially if they are going away on a trip.
A police spokesperson said: “At some point over last weekend a residential premises on Berkeley Drive, Read was subject to a burglary whilst the occupants where away for the weekend. Enquiries are ongoing however we haven't got an awful lot to go on.
“Read does remain a low crime area however please take a few minutes to consider the security of your property. Do you have a secluded patio or rear door that would allow an offender time to gain entry?
“Do you have security lighting /CCTV/an alarm? If you go away do you let (trusted) neighbours know / have curtains opened and closed/ leave lights on random timers/ allow others to use your drive?
“Whilst none of the above measures will necessarily prevent you from being a victim of crime they can potentially deter offenders or help us narrow down timescales to better focus our enquires.”
