An East Lancashire mosque has raised nearly £4,000 for the families devastated by the earthquake in Morocco.

The money was donated after charitable efforts by worshippers at the Raza Jamia Masjid in Lower Antley Street, Accrington.

Mosque volunteer Jemshad Ahmed said: "In a heartwarming display of community spirit and generosity, the Raza Jamia Masjid successfully raised £3,935 to support those affected by the devastating earthquake in Morocco.

"The fundraising efforts were met with overwhelming support from the people of Hyndburn and surrounding areas, showcasing the unity and compassion that define this tight-knit community.

"The campaign, led by the dedicated members of Raza Jamia Masjid, aimed to provide much-needed assistance to those in vital and immediate need in Morocco.

"Through various fundraising activities, including charity events, donation drives, and community outreach initiatives, the mosque collected the impressive sum of £3,935

"The generous contributions of the people of Hyndburn played a pivotal role in making this charitable endeavour a success.

"Residents from all walks of life opened their hearts and wallets to support this noble cause, demonstrating their commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.

"The funds raised will be directed towards Morocco and the recent earthquake, which left many destitute and homeless.

"This remarkable achievement serves as a testament to the compassion and generosity of the people who call this area home."
