A former Wilko store in East Lancashire will begin its new journey this weekend when it reopens as Poundland.
The new store will open on Saturday, September 30 at the Pendle Rise shopping centre in Nelson having agreed a deal with Wilko’s administrators to take on 10 of the stores.
Work is already underway to transform the former Wilko site into Poundland and it will be reopening just a matter of days after it closed along with all other Wilko stores across the country.

Poundland retail director Darren Kay said: “We’re pleased to be able to re-open so quickly in Nelson – not least because our ambition is to provide job opportunities for former Wilko colleagues.
“Of course, we’re not yet in a position to offer our fullest ranges in the store, but we know customers will appreciate a store that’s open, trading, and employing colleagues to one that’s got its shutters closed.
“We’d encourage customers old and new to come and say hello to their new Poundland team from this coming Saturday.”

Subject to current redevelopment plans at Pendle Rise, Poundland intends to carry out a full makeover of the store in 2024 so it can become fully operational.
Wilko stores across East Lancashire will close their doors in the next few weeks – the final day of trading for the Blackburn store is set to be Thursday, October 5.
Burnley’s branch in Charter Walk Shopping Centre closed on September 14 after it was initially thought it could be relocated, though this did not come to fruition.
