The Old Library café is set to reopen its doors under new management after a temporary closure earlier this year.
The Old Library on Bacup Road closed down after co-owner Lynne Kemp died in July.
After much deliberation a few months late, staff at the café announced their decision to ‘continue the hard work’ and reopen as soon as possible.
The café will now be managed by PLAY, the team behind Rawtenstall Market's development, headed by managing director Dan Gregson and operations manager Steven Malcolm who are both “really excited” for the new venture.
When asked about their vision for the café, Dan said: "Our main focus with the Market has been to create a space for our whole community, and this was one of the main draws that pulled us towards The Old Library."
While the exact number of employees is yet to be determined, PLAY has been in touch with former staff members, including Margret and Lorraine, who “worked tirelessly in keeping The Old Library running” during the challenging times.
Dan said: “From discussions with the old team we quickly understood the necessity to get The Old Library back open as soon as possible with the same excellent food and drink offerings.
“This is essential to keep the staff in work and for the customers to have a place to come back to.
“We have already been in contact with the previous chef and are going to be recruiting for another chef to support the kitchen.”
The decision to take on the café was the result of a tender process with Rossendale Borough Council.
Dan said: "We are super proud that the council saw the same objectives as us for this new venture.
“The council themselves have always understood the significance of The Old Library within Waterfoot and were keen to get ourselves and Martin together to help with this transition.”
Regarding renovations, Dan said very little will change as “the space itself is already a beautiful operational space with plenty of original features and natural daylight.”
The menu will feature the same items, with plans to expand and introduce ‘Kitchen Takeovers’ from various street food networks that PLAY has collaborated with over the years.
Dan added that they are also aiming to keep the cost minimal and fair for customers.
The café plans to open next month and will continue its partnership with Rawtenstall Market.
