Pupils from a Blackburn school have raised more than £2,600 following the disasters in Morocco and Libya.

The pupils from Pleckgate High School held a number of events on Friday to help raise the funds.

The events included selling sweet cones made by the Senior Prefect team, wearing green or red accessories to school a raffle to win a Nintendo Switch  which had been donated by The Adhan Group. 

The total of  £2,636.67, has been donated to Benefit Mankind to support their charitable work.

Headteacher of Pleckgate High School, Aishling McGinty said: “We are incredibly grateful that our pupils wanted to help to fund vital support for people suffering in Morocco and Libya. 

"We are so grateful for members of our community and local businesses who have all come together to help our pupils raise such an amazing amount.

"All the money raised from the event will help Benefit Mankind support the people affected the most.”

Benefit Mankind is an international aid relief and development organisation.

He added: “The funds raised by Pleckgate High School have been instrumental in providing essential aid, medical care, and support to those affected by the earthquake in Morocco. 

"Lives have been saved, and the path to recovery has been paved, thanks to their selfless contributions."
