Blackburn trains are delayed or cancelled due to a tree that is blocking the railway.

Lines between Burnley Manchester Road Station and Blackburn Station are blocked.

Network Rail engineers came to the site at around 3pm.

Disruption is expected until around 5pm and commuters have been warned to expect delays of up to 40 minutes.

A spokesperson for Northern said: “There is a tree blocking the railway between Burnley Manchester Road and Blackburn. Lines are blocked.

“Network Rail engineers are expected on site at 3pm.

Train services running through these stations will be delayed or terminated at and started back from Todmorden.

“All stations between Todmorden and Blackburn will not be served.”

Road replacement services will be made available to anyone impacted by the rail issues.

A spokesperson said: “We apologise for the cancellation of this service today. To assist customers to complete their journey, road replacement transport will be provided as follows.

“Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick up points and be advised that journey times will be extended by up to 90 minutes when using road replacement transport.”
