Train services were disrupted on Thursday night (September 21) after police found a body at a train station on the Lancashire border.
British Transport Police officers were called to Appley Bridge station at around 9.30pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Paramedics were also in attendance but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
It is understood that train services to Manchester and Southport were disrupted.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Appley Bridge station shortly before 9.30pm on Thursday, September 21 following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
