Visitors to Community Wellness Day in a mosque were encouraged to ‘cook food at home’ as part of a health plan.
The event took place at Madina Mosque, on Oak Street and aimed to raise awareness of cancer and other conditions, and the importance of early intervention, as well as the help that is available locally when someone receives a diagnosis.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn, Councillor Parwaiz Akhtar, and his wife Shagufta, officially opened the event and met stall holders and visitors.
An appeal to help Morocco Earthquake Appeal raised £1441.
During the day blood pressure and health checks were offered, along with advice from the Bowel and Breast Cancer Screening Services, Lung Care and Gynae Care teams and health information stalls.
People were also encouraged to cook fresh foods at home to help maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Shakil Salam, from the Lancashire Bowel Cancer Screening Programme said: “ Ahuge thank you to everyone who attended and all the health professionals who were on hand to share their expert advice.
“We had a range of activities going on and visitors have given us some great feedback.”
The event was supported by Macmillan Cancer Support, IMO Diabetes, Breast Cancer Screening Service, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, Waheed’s and Asia Continental.
