Residents of a borough have being invited to have their say on where proposed new charging points for electric vehicles should be located.

It’s estimated there’ll be almost 30,000 EVs on the road in Blackburn with Darwen by 2030.

The council has been asked by the Government to look at where charging points could be installed in areas where residents don’t have easy access to off-street parking, including rows of terraced housing.

To help find the best places, residents are being asked to take part in a short survey available Blackburn.gov.uk

Cllr Quesir Mahmood, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s deputy leader and growth boss, said: "Tackling the climate change crisis is a key priority for the council.

"We declared a climate emergency in 2019 and we’ve set a target to be carbon neutral by 2030.

"According to research, it’s estimated that one in three cars in Blackburn with Darwen will be electric by 2030.

"We know that it can be difficult for those who don’t have access to a charging point on a driveway or garage and now we’ve been asked by government to look at where they could be installed for those motorists.

"This survey is a chance for our residents to have their say – whether they have an EV currently or not.

"They know our borough best and their input will be truly valuable in helping us find the best locations for them.

"The survey, which takes only a few minutes to complete, will run until 5pm on Tuesday, October 31.

"Volunteers are also being sought for three new focus groups taking place over September 27 and 28 that will also help inform the findings.

"They’ll last two hours each with participants being offered a £25 e-shopping voucher for taking part."
